What it is: Network Marketing is really Referral Marketing. Each partner is paid for their own personal sales, as well as a portion of the sales from the others that they recruit. This creates a tier of distributors. An example would be if you were to watch a great movie and then suggest to a friend that they go to see it. You’re simply referring customers to a product. Technically you could consider your marketing business to be your own “store”.

Take a look at the pyramid tiers below. Most people work for a company like the one shown on the left, following a corporate hierarchy tier. Forbes.com suggests that the stereotypical idea of a Corporate Hierarchy is “a pyramid structure where information, communication, and strategic direction flow in only one direction, from the top down. This type of hierarchy is a completely outdated way of doing business today and is an approach that I don’t think makes any sense.”

Very often we become so accustomed to a certain approach, that we fail to consider other possible options. Every day we use a variety of products from many different retail stores. The people placed higher in the corporate pyramid are the people making money from our purchases, not the employees at the bottom.
